Certified Angler Instructor Course

Only registration for Session 1 is needed as attendance at all meetings is required.

The Certified Angling Instructor Course is what you need to take your Fishing Program to the Next Level!
 

Strengthen your Unit's Fishing Program by taking the Certified Angler Instructor Course! 

As a CAI, you will learn to plan and run successful youth fishing education and events for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing crews. Graduates will be expected to lead fishing events and education in their council – and see the smiles that result when our youth catch fish. This 18-hour course is open to participants from all councils.                 Sign up today!             - NO PRIOR FISHING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!!!

This course will consist of 6 Zoom (online) sessions, 3 hours each. The cost for all the classes will be $15, and attendance is required at ALL sessions in order to earn this completion. The Course will run on Thursday nights: October 3, 10, 17, 24, November 7, and 14 from 7pm to 10pm.

There will be an optional in-person training on Nov 9th at Wallwood Boy Scout Reservation in Quincy, FL to supplement the online learning!

What Is a Certified Angling Instructor (CAI)?

CAI and AE are now official training courses recognized by Scouting America to be recorded in your Scout Training records! Learn how to effectively teach new Angling Educators, CAIs, Merit Badge counselors, Scouts and get access to great resources and discounts only available to registered CAIs!

  • Official BSA certification for fishing and fly-fishing programs and merit badge instructors
  • Train the trainer position
  • One who leads and executes fishing programs at the council level
  • Fishing program advocate and resource for Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, and Venturing units
  • Develop and support council fishing programs
  • Help promote Complete Angler Program
  • Qualified for national fishing staff positions at Jamborees, Order of the Arrow conferences, and help train fishing staffs at all four BSA high-adventure bases.

Scouters who successfully complete the CAI Course are eligible to earn the recognition patches and will be assigned a CAI number and receive a CAI certificate.

Our in person option is NOT required to complete this course. - It will be held November 9th at Wallwood Boy Scout Reservation near Tallahassee, Florida.  Please contact Chuck Laslie for a camping reservation, should you plan to camp, in addition to registering.  Food and materials for this will be $65 which includes Saturday breakfast and a fish fry lunch. - we will wrap by 6PM and dinner will not be provided.
