CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR FUNDAMENTALS TRAINING

Scouts BSA and Venturing youth demand an exciting, challenging outdoor program.  This requires volunteer leaders trained in various high adventure skills.  The Bay-Lakes and Samoset Councils are teaming up to provide Climbing instructor training in 2026!  This training will allow leaders to conduct their own Climbing programs, in addition each council will be able to expand year-round programs at camp with more trained instructors.

Bay-Lakes Council Camps Staff can register for free using a password your camp director can provide you. 

COPE & Climbing Fundamentals
Level I & Level 2
April 24^th to 26^th, 2026
Gardner Dam Adventure Base, White Lake, WI

Course Details:

The Fundamentals course is approximately 16 hours long, beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday and ending by 4:00 PM on Sunday.  

The cost per weekend is $25 per person.  The course is open to adults 18 years and older and/or youth that are 16 years or older and have been nominated by their unit leader.  Participants must be at least 21 years or older to be certified as a level 2 instructor. (This will require additional hands-on training -- We'll work with you to find opportunities when we have campers climbing to have you come and be mentored.)

A completed BSA Medical form is required. Each participant is also responsible for all of his or her personal clothing, bedding and hygiene needs.

A fully trained and enthusiastic volunteer staff provides all of the leadership, instruction and supervision for each weekend. Bay-Lakes Council will provide all equipment, food, sleeping quarters and course materials.

Reminder: All adults staying overnight on the property must be Registered Adult Leaders with the Boy Scouts of America and have completed the required Youth Protection Training within two years of the last day of the last session for which you register.
