Salesmanship Merit Badge Flash Class
By studying salesmanship, Scouts can learn self-confidence, motivation, friendliness, and the persistence necessary to overcome obstacles and solve problems. Sales can offer a challenging and rewarding career for those who enjoy interacting with people from all walks of life.
Who: Scouts BSA Ages 11-17
Spaces for 15 youth to take the Merit Badge class.
When: Saturday December 7, 2024; 10:00am to 2:00pm
Where: Miami Valley Scout Shop 7285 Poe Ave, Dayton
Cost: FREE
Pre-requisites: #4, #6, and #7.
For requirement 4, create a sales presentation of any product of your choosing. This can be for a favorite toy or product or even service. It can even be your presentation for selling popcorn. Your presentation may include a PowerPoint slide show, pictures or drawings, or props including the product itself. Please limit your presentation to 5 mins.
Requirement 6. Do ONE of the following:
(a) Interview a salesperson and learn the following: (1) What made the person choose sales as a profession? (2) What are the most important things to remember when talking to customers? (3) How is the product or service sold? (4) Include your own questions.
(b) Interview a retail store owner and learn the following: (1) How often is the owner approached by a sales representative? (2) What good traits should a sales representative have? What habits should the sales representative avoid? (3) What does the owner consider when deciding whether to establish an account with a sales representative? (4) Include at least two of your own questions.
Requirement 7. Investigate and report on career opportunities in sales, then do the following: (a) Prepare a written statement of your qualifications and experience. Include relevant classes you have taken in school and merit badges you have earned. (b) Research education, experience, or training you should obtain so you are prepared to serve in a sales position.
What to bring: notebook, pen/pencil, a filled out blue card, pre-requisites written in a notebook and ready to discuss with the counselor, and bring a packed lunch or snacks.
