A Certified Angling Instructor (CAI) course is being offered online to train Scouters to teach fishing skills within the Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing programs. This course equip participants with the knowledge and skills to deliver engaging and effective fishing programs at various levels within Scouting. 

Key aspects of CAI training:

• Focus:
  • The course aims to provide the tools and knowledge necessary to design, develop, and lead BSA fishing programs. 
• EDGE Method:
  • The training utilizes the EDGE Method (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable) to teach effective instruction techniques. 
• No prior experience required:
  • While prior fishing experience is helpful, it's not a prerequisite. 
• Age and Rank:
  • CAI training is open to adults.. 
• Curriculum:
  • Courses cover age-appropriate fishing techniques, safety, ethics, fishery management, event planning, and more. 
• Certification:
  • Upon completion, participants earn the Scouting America Certified Angling Instructor recognition.  MUST ATTEND ALL SIX SESSIONS 
• Benefits:
  • CAIs can serve as Merit Badge Counselors for Fishing, Fly Fishing, and Fish and Wildlife Management. They can also help recruit, retain, and reactivate Scouts through engaging fishing programs. 
• Delivery:
  • Courses will be fully online (via Zoom)  starting on Sunday, August 3 - September 14 (Except for August 31, Labor Day Weekend) 7pm-9pm EST.
