Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation Training (BALOO)
BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack campout, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters. Packs are required to have at least 1 BALOO trained leader in attendance at every campout.

BALOO training is comprised of two components—an online component and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “TRAINED” Cub Scout outdoor leader.

The online component (available on my.scouting.org) must be completed prior to the practical component, in order to make the best use of time to allow leaders to experience as much as possible during the practical hands-on training.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
IOLS is the Outdoor training component required to be trained as a Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster.  The course will lead the participant through the Be, Know and Do’s of how to deliver instruction in a youth-led BSA unit.  We will cover the Basic Scout Skills in Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class from the point of view of teaching youth to lead and teach other youth.  It’s a fun course! We’ll camp, cook, and learn together.

You’ll learn: How to deliver outdoor skills instruction in a youth-led program, covering basic scout skills while camping, cooking, having fun.
