In-person Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Leadership Training
Angler Education
Angling Educator is a four-hour training course for Scouters and Scouts age 15+. It is a national course and is taught by BSA Certified Angling Instructors. The purpose of the class is to prepare program leaders to teach fishing skills, help Cubs complete the new elective Fishing Adventures at all levels, and to plan and run fishing events for their unit, district, or Council. Angling Educators learn age-based and skills-appropriate fishing tools and techniques for simple cane pole and spin cast fishing. With the addition of fishing adventures at every level of Cub Scouts, this is a great time to expand your skills in teaching fishing to youth! The course highlights best practices in both the classroom and in the field. Graduates can:
- Teach Cubs and Scouts to fish and help them be more successful at catching fish.
- Gain knowledge and learn skills that can be enjoyed and shared for a lifetime.
- Improve day camp & summer camp attendance through fishing program options.
- Provide a major tool for recruiting and retaining Cubs and Scouts at the unit and district level.
Graduates will receive a BSA Angling Educator patch!
Outdoor Ethics:
- open to both scouts and adults
- no age/rank requirement - this is the most basic Outdoor Ethics award to teach the concepts in the first place.
- also covers the following rank requirements: Tenderfoot 1C, Second Class 1B, First Class 1B (depending on the scout - they need to have gone on three different campouts to meet the different guidelines).
- there is an online component that scouts will need to do at home and get signed off by their Scoutmasters
