Jamboree on the Water

Event Details

What is the Jamboree on the Water?

Jamboree-on-the-Water (JOTW) is an international “join-in” Jamboree where Scouts all over the world, wherever they are, join in during the same week and organize an activity on, in or under the water.  They record the event on the official JOTW Facebook page or website to share the experience in solidarity with Scouts world-wide.

Open to all Scouts!  Cubs and younger Scouting units could visit a local pond or lake or beach as part of a weekend camp.  A Scout troop might check out water activities of any kind, particularly involving ships, boats, canoes, kayaks or paddleboats; or they could do some educational presentation or activity, or work on water-centered Merit Badge requirements.  A Venture or Rover Crew might make a service project out of restoring or maintaining portions of a dock or help with harbor cleanup or organize SCUBA dives.

Participation is easy and fun.  Plan an activity involving the water during the month of July (preferably the second week or weekend of July).  Register your activity and unit or individual participants online to receive an official JOTW certificate for the unit and individual participants after the event.  To participate, see Jamboree-on-the-Water on FACEBOOK and register online at:

When is the Jamboree on the Water?

The Jamboree-on-the-Water will be held every year in July (the preferred focus week is the second week of July or second week-end) which includes the July 9th anniversary of Sea Scouting.

Is this something new?

Yes and no. World Scouting already has two other “join-in” jamborees:  (1) the Jamboree-on-the Air/Internet (JOTA/JOTI), which brings Scouts together “on the air” via ham radios and the Internet, plus (2) the Jamboree-on-the-Trail (and now TRAILJAM), to bring Scouts together “on land,” by hiking.

What is new is that we are adding a third join-in Jamboree to bring Scouts together “on the water,” completing a SCOUTING TRIFECTA of activity (1) on the air, (2) on land and (3) on the water.  This added focus on Sea Scouting is definitely new and exciting.  Now we have a whole trilogy.

Is there a badge?

It would not be a Scouting event without a badge or patch. Participants will be able to purchase a JOTW patch online (see top of front page) as recognition of having participated in this worldwide event.  There will also be an international Jamboree Trifecta patch for purchase for doing all three “join-in” jamborees (Air + Land + Water).

Scouts around the world are invited to suggest badge ideas for next year.  All Scouts who register and take part will be sent a free certificate by e-mail.  Patches for the event can be ordered and purchased separately online.
