**Please read this entire description before registering**

Purpose:

This training is prioritized for volunteers for the International Sportsmens Expo on Jan 17-19th.  Email Eric_laursen@yahoo.com prior to registering as volunteers are eligible to take this course for free.

This course will train and certify Scouting America’s Portable Challenge Structure Facilitators (PCSF).  This course meets the minimum level of training required to operate a portable climbing wall (“portable challenge structure”). The BSA requires two certified BSA climbing instructors for units to run any climbing event.  This course does NOT qualify an instructor for permanent artificial or outdoor (real rock) climbing events.

Requirements:

Portable Challenge Structure Facilitators must be at least 21 years of age, be registered with the BSA, be current with YPT, have a BSA Medical form parts A and B, and meet the BMI chart in part C of the medical form at the time of the course.

Class participants MUST complete Scouting America’s “Climb on Safely” course on my.scouting.org prior to attending this class.

Please stay at home if you have any signs of illness within 48 hours of the course.

Class size:

Class size is limited to 8 participants.  Registrations are on a first-come-first-served basis.

About the training:

Scouting America’s Portable Challenge Structure Facilitator (PCSF) training certifies an individual to operate portable challenge structures, such as portable climbing walls.  Golden Empire Council’s portable wall falls under this classification, requiring events to be supervised by a PCSF, at a minimum, or by a certified Level 2 Climbing Instructor (or higher).  All climbing events must include a minimum of 2 qualified instructors.

Class participants MUST complete Scouting America’s “Climb on Safely” course on my.scouting.org prior to attending this class

This course will include training on various Scouting program methods and requirements related to the PCSF role and the manufacturer’s requirements to operate the Vertical Reality wall owned by GEC.

Check-in begins at 7:30am and coursework begins promptly.  The class should be finished by 4pm but could run to 5pm, depending on the pace of instruction.  Participants should be prepared for the extended day. PREWORK will be assigned, is mandatory. Failure to complete the prework and provide your certificate to the instructor will forfeit your slot in the course and forfeit your course fee.

Lunch is NOT provided.

When registering, please use the email where you can be contacted for prework and other class notifications.
