Mountain Bike Getaway for Scouts

Event Details

DETAILS:

  • WHEN: October 4-6, 2024
  • WHERE: Wente Scout Reservation in Willits, CA

ALL THE INFO:

We are very excited to announce a very exclusive fundraising, family-friendly, Mountain Bike Getaway for Scouting.  A retreat from the normal. A bite-sized, all-inclusive getaway so it’s easy to fit on the calendar, pack your essential gear, and then escape the concrete jungle for a full weekend in Northern California that benefits Scouting.

Three hours north of Trail Head Cyclery, up the iconic CA-101, where the vineyards turn to redwoods is the small town of Willits. It’s best known for its Skunk Train that can be ridden to Fort Bragg, however, there is a little-known gem called the Wente Scout Reservation where 19 miles of mountain bike trails were built to provide Scouts a mountain bike experience! This program is nine years old and needs help to keep it flourishing, so as a team we came up with this fundraising event!

This is a fundraising event to support the Golden Gate Area Council - Scouting America and their amazing program that helps support the Wente Scout Reservation in Willits, California. Through your participation, the mountain bike community is pulling together to help fund this amazing program.  This is the only Scout Camp with a mountain bike program and it is amazing to see the Scouts riding the pump tracks and flow trails.  The stoke is real.

Riding a bike is an amazing remedy for issues such as obesity, focus and especially ADHD, so much so that Specialized Bicycles founded the Outride Foundation.  Check that out, it’s incredible.  The success of the Outride Foundation has led us to understand how positively cycling can improve the health of our youth.  Scouting is all about improving the health of our youth and the fact that there is a mountain bike program is awesome.  Let’s help that program thrive!

You will have exclusive access to the Wente Scout Reservation for the entire weekend. Campers will bring their bikes to ride the 19+ miles of diverse trails over and through two mountain zones. There is a beautiful lake to fish, swim, or boat in with rowboats and kayaks on site. Main meals are served at the Scout Cafeteria every day so you don’t have to plan meals, yay! There will be group rides, night rides, and pump tracks available to pump anytime. There will be activities like bike maintenance classes, skills coaching sessions, disc golf putting, fishing, swimming, boating, shooting clays, archery, stargazing, a beer garden and ice cream socials. Sporting Clays Program provided by the GGACBSA.

Folks, there’s a lot to do up there but you only have to do what you feel like doing. That said, the tasty selection of demo bikes from Specialized, Ibis, and Transition will be hard to pass up for folks interested in trying something new or different. We all know the eMTB fleet is going to be hot, but the trails here are just perfect for trail bikes and even hardtails.

Our goal is to support this Scout Reservation with it’s unique mountain bike program by providing you with a fun environment to meet other riders, ride fun trails, help introduce your kids, friends, and significant to mountain biking, get coaching on how to ride better, swim between rides, cast some flies, and do it all without having to plan, prep and execute a weekend of camping. The tents and platforms are there, the water is there, the meals are prepared, the dishes are taken care of… Just load up your gear and get out there!
